What ScanHawk does

Point your camera at a QR code and ScanHawk checks where it leads before you open it — returning a clear verdict (Safe, Suspicious, or Dangerous), a risk score, and a plain-language explanation of why.

Frequently asked

Why does ScanHawk need camera access?

To read QR codes. The camera image is decoded on your device and never leaves it — only the decoded text (usually a link) is checked.

Does it work offline?

No. Checking a code requires an internet connection so ScanHawk can analyze the destination and return a verdict.

What do the verdicts mean?

Safe — no significant risk found. Suspicious — treat with caution; something looks off. Dangerous — do not open; the destination shows strong signs of phishing or abuse.

Do I need an account?

No. ScanHawk works without any account, sign-in, or name. The first time you open it you'll be asked to accept the Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy — after that it won't ask again unless those documents are materially amended. The app stores a random identifier for your installation so it can record that agreement and apply rate limits; an email address is entirely optional. See our Privacy Policy.

A code was rated wrong — can I report it?

Yes. Use "Report this code" on the result screen. Your report helps improve protection for everyone. If you own a site or code that ScanHawk rated Suspicious or Dangerous and believe that is wrong, see Dispute a verdict — that is the route for getting it reviewed.
